Born in Bromsgrove in 1946, Sensei Packer started Aikido when 20, gained Shodan after five years practice
at the old BAI (Birmingham Athletics Institute) and has supported the
Aikido Fellowship of Great Britain since
its inception. His role has been in the background developing Jo (stick) techniques after he gained the first Black Belt Stick Grade in the Fellowship. He started teaching at the BAI on Thursday evenings and opened a class at Moseley School on Monday evenings. Although officially he does not have a class at the Birmingham Sports Centre (BSC), he has continued for 30 years to take a class within the Fellowship slot for Sunday Mornings (09:15 - 10:30). He continues to teach at Colmers Farm creating an atmosphere where students are not pressurised to attend, but fit Aikido into their daily lives. Sensei Packer is supported by his wife, Yolander, who holds 4th Dan in Aikido
